Category D is the lowest tier of gaming machine in Great Britain. It includes coin pushers (penny falls), crane grabs, prize machines and some low-stake reel machines.
They are found mainly in family entertainment centres, seaside arcades, pubs, clubs and travelling fairs. Category D is the only category that under-18s are legally allowed to play.
Stakes and prizes are set in regulations under the Gambling Act 2005, with different limits for different types of Category D machine, such as money prizes and non-money prizes. Higher categories, Category C and Category B, are adults only.
For current stake and prize limits, see our fruit machines page.
