A deposit limit caps how much money you can put into your gambling account over a set period, typically a day, a week or a month. Once you reach it, the account will not accept more until the period resets.
Since 31 October 2025, GB-licensed operators must prompt customers to set a deposit limit before their first deposit. You can lower a limit at any time and it takes effect straight away; raising one usually involves a waiting period, so the decision is not made in the heat of a session.
A deposit limit is the simplest way to turn a bankroll into something the account enforces. It works alongside loss limits, reality checks and time-outs. Since 14 April 2020, credit cards cannot be used to gamble with GB operators. See our safer gambling page.
