A respin is an extra spin, normally at no cost, in which some symbols or reels stay in place while the rest spin again. It is triggered by a game event rather than by you choosing to hold reels.
Common uses include:
- a respin after an expanding wild covers a reel
- respins that continue while walking wilds remain on the reels
- hold and win features, where respins reset each time a new cash symbol lands
- a random respin to complete a near-win, with the result still decided by the RNG
The respin and the spin that triggered it form one feature, and its value is part of the game's published RTP. Some older games let you pay to respin a single reel; see our respins feature page for how they work.
