The statutory gambling levy

Since 6 April 2025, online operators pay 1.1% of gross gambling yield to fund research, prevention and NHS treatment.

The rule

A statutory levy on Gambling Commission licensees replaced voluntary donations to research, prevention and treatment. Online operators (remote casino, betting, bingo, betting intermediary and gambling software licences) pay 1.1% of gross gambling yield. Land-based casinos and betting pay 0.5%, adult gaming centres and land-based bingo 0.2%, family entertainment centres, lotteries and pool betting 0.1%. Spending split: 50% NHS-led treatment, 30% prevention, 20% research. Invoiced annually from 1 September.
