The rule
Remote Gaming Duty (tax on profits from online casino games including slots) rises from 21% to 40%. Remote betting gets a new 25% rate inside General Betting Duty from 1 April 2027 (remote bets on UK horseracing stay at 15%). Bingo duty is abolished from 1 April 2026. Rate history: 15% when the point-of-consumption basis began on 1 December 2014; 21% from 1 October 2019.
Who it applies to
Operators providing remote gaming to UK customers, wherever they are based
What it means for you
- Players do not pay tax on gambling winnings in the UK. Remote Gaming Duty is paid by the operator on its profits from British customers.
- Expect operators to respond with fewer or smaller promotions; the RTP of a given game version does not change because of tax.
