The credit card gambling ban

You cannot gamble with a credit card in Great Britain, directly or through an e-wallet, since 14 April 2020.

The rule

Gambling businesses may not accept credit cards (directly or via e-wallets funded by credit card) for gambling.

Who it applies to

All online and land-based gambling except non-remote lottery tickets

What it means for you

  • Debit cards, bank transfers and some e-wallets funded from a debit card or bank account are fine. Credit, including e-wallets topped up by a credit card, is not.
  • If a site lets you deposit by credit card, it is not following GB rules.
