The rule
Two kinds of check. Financial vulnerability checks (light-touch, public data such as insolvency records) are live: from August 2024 at £500 net deposits in a rolling 30 days, lowered to £150 from February 2025. Financial Risk Assessments using credit reference data were confirmed on 7 July 2026 for a staged introduction: stage one only at the largest operators, at £5,000 net deposits in 24 hours (25+) or £2,500 (under 25), with no enforcement for failing to act in early stages; the eventual thresholds are £1,000 in 24 hours or £3,000 in 90 days (25+), and £750 / £2,000 (under 25). Document requests are to be replaced by credit reference checks that do not affect credit scores.
Who it applies to
Online operators (FRA stage one: largest operators only)
What it means for you
- You may be asked about your finances if your deposits pass certain levels. Light-touch checks use public records such as insolvency data and should not affect your credit file.
- Fuller assessments using credit reference data were confirmed in July 2026 for a staged start at the largest operators. We will update this page when a start date is set.
