Remote gambling is the legal term for gambling that takes place through remote communication: websites, apps, phone or interactive TV. Online slots are remote gambling.
Any business offering remote gambling to people in Great Britain needs a remote operating licence from the Gambling Commission, wherever the business is based. Games offered must meet the Commission's Remote Technical Standards, and the operator must follow the LCCP.
Several rules apply only to remote slots, including the online stake limits, the 2.5-second minimum game cycle and the bans on autoplay and turbo spin. Machines in venues are governed separately by machine categories; see fruit machines.
